An annual debut solo exhibition to launch an emerging artist’s career, this award is for an exceptional project which focuses on subjects of sociopolitical / economic relevance.
Winner of AMCA's The Emerging Artist Solo (TEAS™'), Meenakshi Nihalani, received her Bachelor's degree in sculpture from Sir J.J. School of Fine Arts, Mumbai. She was awarded a Residency in Berlin, and by the Fundaziun Nairs, Switzerland, in 2019, along with an additional scholarship from the Honorary Indian consulate in Stuttgart over 2018 - 19. She has also been awarded artist residencies in the Netherlands and Hampi Art Labs, India.
Her work explores the impact of Partition and colonialism on agrarian communities. Her current body of work draws on Gandhi's letters about the Champaran Satyagraha and the plight of indigo farmers.
